Matshediso and Phelang learners through to Gauteng swimming competition

Taking the plunge, learners dive into the water in a battle to qualify for the provincial level of the swimming competition.

KwaThema Sports Complex swimming pool, hosted learners representing the Ekurhuleni Sport Association for the Intellectually Impaired (ESAII).

The event took place on Saturday, and was organised by the ESAII executive, together with summer games code conveners.

Phelang LSEN and Matshediso LSEN represented the Kwatsaduza area, competing against Isiphosethu LSEN, Usizolwethu LSEN and Zimeleni LSEN from other parts of Ekurhuleni.

The event catered for learners doing freestyle, backstroke, butterfly and breaststroke.

They participated in the U/13 category, up to the open team which is for those 20 years and above.

According to the ESAII swimming convener Makgootso Nedzinwani, four learners from Matshediso and one from Phelang are part of the 15 learners through to provincial level.

They will battle for a spot to be part of the Gauteng team, which will represent the province in KwaZulu-Natal next month.
