Construction fence stolen and sold to community

The suspects who sold the community members a stolen security fence

The fence was recovered at the Ekurhuleni Squatter Camp after police were tipped off by a member of the community.

KwaThema police spokesman, Captain Thabo Sibuyi, says the property had been reported stolen earlier that morning and was later seen at the above-mentioned informal settlement.

“Police then proceeded to the address, where they found a woman (28).

“When questioned, the buyer named the suspect, aged 22, who sold her the fence.

“Another man (28) with the same fence was also approached and he confirmed that he had also bought the razor fence from the accused and his partner,” he says.

Sibuyi says that 200 metres of the fence was recovered by the police and handed to the rightful owner, while the seller and two buyers were arrested and charged.

“The three appeared at the Springs Magistrate’s Court on Monday and the matter was remanded for further legal representation.

“The woman remains detained at Johannesburg Prison, while the two men are at the Modderbee Prison until their next court appearance,” he says.
