Lerutle and Khumalo streets finally connected

Employees who are responsible for the connection the new road

KwaThema – Residents in the area are happy about the new connection of Lerutle and Khumalo streets.

The R4 Million connections which were started last month temporarily employed 10 people.

Councillor Thulani Simelane says the community members have been pleading with the Ekurhuleni municipality for years to connect the two roads.

“They found it difficult when they had to access the next street because they had to drive for five minutes around the block.

“Now that these two streets have been connected their problems will be a thing of the past,” he says.

Simelane is pleading with the community members to look after the new road.

“It should not be vandalised or burned because this would take us ten steps back with service delivery.

“The money used for the construction of the street is from your tax purse and if vandalised we would be forced to redirect the funds meant for other projects to fix the road.

“We are also calling on motorists to respect the rules of the road and not speed and cause unnecessary accidents,” he says.

Community member, Keke Hlapolosa, says he is happy with the road connection.

“It is about time that we have the road connection. We have been pleading for years but the municipality never took this seriously.”
