New female soccer league in kasi

Soccer coach, Mkhonza Mkhonzana, invites young female players to join the new female soccer league.

KwaThema – Springs Local Football Association has partnered with the Department of Basic Education and Local government to develop a local female school soccer league.

The new soccer league for girls under 13, 15 and 17 years will see more female soccer teams coming from different schools in the area.

Soccer coach, Mkhonza Mkhonzana, says the league is meant to attract and convince young girls to participate in sport.

“We are concerned about the high number of young girls who fall prey to ‘blessers’ and fall pregnant at a young age.

“We want to contribute towards the fight against social ills – especially teenage pregnancy – and want girls to concentrate on their studies.

“The league will be run on weekdays after school with the help of teachers.

Mkhozana says they are calling on soccer coaches to attend the upcoming soccer clinics.

“They will be hosted at KwaThema stadium from 10am, on Saturday.

“We are calling on soccer coaches to attend the sessions because through the initiative, we will be able improve the state of soccer in the area.

“We want to rebuild the legacy of KwaThema because we used to have sport players represent us in different sporting codes,” he says.

Mkhozana says they are calling on the community and parents to support the players.

“We won’t be able to motivate the players without working together as a community,” he says.
