KwaThema – This after the electricity was cut off in KwaThema from 8am on Friday and was supposed to be restored at 6pm.
This was to enable the maintenance of one of the big transformers in the area but this was not the case.
On Saturday morning the residents could no longer take being in the cold. They blocked the Vlakfontein Road demanding for power to be restored.
Concerned resident Maria Sibeko says the residents were frustrated because they were promised that power would be restored in the evening.
“We spend the whole day without electricity and could not wait to go for another day.
“The only time our leaders listen to us is when we protest.
“A few hours after we blocked the road the electrician, who was on standby, came to assist us.
“This shows they were dragging their feet to helping us,” she says.

“We are tired of empty promises and will continue being destructive until we are heard.
“We are the residents of this country and deserve services,” she says.

“I lost control of the vehicle and drove it off the road.
“As soon as it stopped moving, I, together with my two colleagues, ran for safety.
