One hundred and ten residents received title deeds from MMC Lesiba Mpya. The deeds were handed out to the residents of Duduza at the Monty Motloung Community Hall last Friday.
This was part of the Title Deeds Friday initiative by the municipality to ensure residents have the necessary documentations of ownership of their stands.
Member of Mayoral Committee for Human Settlement Clr Lesiba Mpya says they decided to continue with the initiative because this ensures residents have a security of tenure.
“We are working on giving our people a sense of ownership.
“We are pleading with the recipients not to sell the document to anyone.
“It is an important document that belongs to the entire family and the generations to come,” he says.
One of the recipients, 98-year-old Maria Shabangu says she is relieved now that she has a document that affirms her as the owner of the house.
“I can stop thinking about what will happen to my home when I die.
“I feared my children and grandchildren will be thrown out because we didn’t have documents to prove that we are the rightful owners.
“This document is important to me and my grandchildren; I therefore would like to thank the government giving us this document,” she says.
