Taxi driver (4+1) shot dead in hijacking

The hijackers who attacked a taxi driver panicked and drove the stolen vehicle into a brick wall.

KwaThema – A 4+1 taxi driver, Siphelele Poswa (31), was hijacked and killed on the corner of Kgaswane and Mokgomo streets in the early hours of Saturday morning.

It is alleged that Poswa was with his friend at the time and was driving a white Toyota Conquest when they were attacked.

KwaThema police spokesman Captain Thabo Sibuyi says it is alleged that the two friends were hijacked by two unknown men who were seen driving a Toyota Avanza (colour and registration number unknown).

“As the driver was pulled out of the vehicle, his friend managed to escape unharmed.

“The driver was then shot in the back of his right shoulder. Thereafter the hijackers drove off in the hijacked car and their own vehicle,” he says.

The taxi driver succumbed to his injuries.

He adds that another taxi driver who was passing by saw what had happened and followed the suspects.

“The driver of the stolen vehicle panicked and drove into the gate of a house on Hlabane Street.

“The suspects then fled in their own vehicle.

“At this stage the motive of the murder is not yet known.

“Police are asking for anyone with information to come forward or to contact the KwaThema detectives on 011 812 4600,” he says.
