Valencia FC opens doors for young players

Young soccer hopefuls fight for positions in Valencia FC.

KwaThema – Over hundred young players in Kwatsaduza fought for a position in Valencia FC during the team’s soccer trials hosted recently at KwaThema Stadium.

The team plays in the ABC Motsepe League which is a second division of the PSL.

13 young players were identified and made it into the team in the next season which will open in September.

Technical Advisor Chairperson of Springs Football Association Mkhonza Mkhozana says Valencia FC is one of the biggest teams playing in the league and they are here to support them to host successful trials.

“We are encouraging local football development to keep young boys occupied in sports to keep away from taking drugs and committing a crime.

“Through the trials, we ensure that quality players are absorbed fairly into the team and will be in good hands to be able to grow into bigger leagues.

Team coach Nelson Mafu: “I am impressed by the outcome of the young players who responded to the call.

“We now have more young players from and around Kwatsaduza and this will encourage other players in other teams to have the ambition to one day play for the team.

“We are now working hard to push the team into NFD (National Football Division) so that they can find a profession in the sports.

“We now have to work together to ensure that they reach their full potential and one day play for PSL and national teams,” he says.

Nelson says the community used to produce the best soccer players and they can still do it again through the support of the community and the parents.

“We are proud of the boys because they are showing dedication and a hunger to succeed in the sport,” says Mkhozana.
