Woman raped on her way to work

Duduza – A man has been arrested after a woman was raped and robbed of her possessions in Masechaba section in Duduza.

It is alleged the woman was on her way to catch a bus to work in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Duduza corporate communication officer, Sgt Harry Manaka, says the women explained she spotted a man following her wearing a red T-shirt.

“He tried to talk to her but she ignored him and then the male started insulting her.

“She tried to run away but the man followed chase and was later joined by another.

“The two forced the female to the ground, assaulted her, undressed and raped her.

“The victim managed to scream for help and the brave community of Masechaba came to her rescue.

“They chased and apprehended one suspect who was later handed over to the police,” he says.

Manaka says the police are tracing the second suspect who will be arrested soon.

“It is sad that defenceless women are targeted and attacked on their way to work.

“We urge residents to avoid walking alone in the dark and to be alert especially in remote quiet places.

“The arrested suspect has appeared in the Nigel Magistrate’s Court and was denied bail.

“Investigations continue,” he says.
