KwaThema- New construction of tarred roads in Kope and Sokhele streets are underway.
The R5-million projects will see the construction of the two streets and stormwater drains.
Ward 80 Clr Wilson Busakwe says the stormwater drains will be constructed in Kope, Sokhele, Chiloane and Motlwatse streets.
“These areas were saturated by water in the past – especially after heavy rains.
“The residents were often trapped in their homes on such days but now that we have received a budget, this will be a thing of the past,” he says.
Busakwe says the project started in September and is estimated to be completed in December.
“We are hoping there will not be any delays to distract completion of the project.
“We are calling on the residents to take care of the new development and not to allow anyone to vandalise it,” he says.
Busakwe says the project has absorbed 25 labourers from the community.
“We are trying to employ as many people from the community as possible because we face the challenge of unemployment.
“There are still going to be more projects in the area and then others will be given an opportunity to work and provide for their families,” he says.
