Residents warned against sitting in the car

Residents should avoid sitting in their cars in exposed public spaces, especially at night.

KwaThema – Residents have been warned against sitting inside their cars at night in exposed public spaces.

This comes after a number of drivers were recently hijacked in such situations in the area.

It is alleged a victim, Lobby Masuku (31), was sitting inside a red Volkswagen Polo 6 with a client along Mogafe Street at around 10pm on November 30.

According to KwaThema police spokesperson Captain Thabo Sibuyi, the complainant alleges two men approached the car and without warning opened the driver’s side door, which was not locked.

“The suspect pulled out a gun, instructing the complainant not to scream.

“[The complainant] managed to push him away and managed to run away, leaving the car keys still in the ignition.

“While running he heard three gunshots in his direction, one of them shooting him in the foot.

“The suspects drove off in the vehicle,” Sibuyi says.

“The female customer also managed to run to her home for safety.”

Sibuyi says residents should refrain from sitting inside their cars in exposed places, especially at night.

“This makes them a soft target for the criminals.”
