Gunmen kill driver execution-style

The driver of a Toyota Quantum was shot and killed in front of 14 passengers.

Tsakane – A 28-year-old man was shot and killed by five unknown men at the corner of Rumani and Rokana roads in Selcourt.

It is alleged that the deceased was driving a Toyota Quantum transporting 14 passengers including friends and members of different families.

The driver was dropping them off at their respective homes in the area.

Tsakane police spokesperson Sgt Lerato Mngomezulu says the suspects appeared from nowhere when the driver made a turn at the corner of Rokana and Rumani roads.

“It is alleged the suspects stood in the middle of the road and started shooting towards the Quantum and the driver got shot,” Mngomezulu says.

“They continued shooting while approaching the Quantum.

“One of the suspects went to the driver’s side of the vehicle; he shot him again and pulled him out of the car. He then got inside the car while the others got inside the passenger’s side.

“They ordered everyone not to look at them.”

Mngomezulu says the suspects drove away with all 14 passengers, leaving the deceased lying on the ground.

“They ordered the lady who was sitting in the front seat to show them the nearest cemetery; she did as they ordered.

“They went inside the old cemetery at Extension Three, KwaThema and ordered everyone to give all their valuables which included cellphones, shoes, jewelleries and cash before leaving the scene.

“They fled the scene by foot.

“The suspects were allegedly communicating in Northern Sotho,” Mngomezulu adds.

Cluster commander Maj Gen Mumsy Mbele appeals to the community to work hand in hand with the police but not to try apprehending these suspects as they are dangerous. Rather call the nearest police station or use the hotline number 0800 10111.
