KwaThema – Five women and one man were arrested during a police raid last Friday in connection with the bombing of a petrol station along Nigel Road in Selcourt.

KwaThema police spokesperson, Captain Thabo Sibuyi, says the police were responding to a tip-off received from members of the community.

“During the search we found an unlicensed AK-47 with two loaded magazines, a 9mm with two loaded magazines, other ammunition inside a bag with 22 AK-47 rounds, 108 7.65mm rounds, 26 9mm rounds and five revolvers.

“We also found the clothes which the suspect was wearing during the incident,” Sibuyi said.

“During the raid the police also found cartons of cigarettes, ammunition, and torn-off money which is suspected to have been from the drop-safe which was bombed.

“They also found explosives inside the toilet.”

The suspects appeared before the Spring Magistrate’s Court on February 19.

“The case has been postponed to February 26 for a bail application,” Sibuyi says.
