How social media has given everyone a voice

Use video content

Facebook has its very own algorithm, and they have clearly stated that they favourite video content over other kinds of content on news feeds. If you have an important message to share, it’s a good idea to put it into video. You don’t need to get one professionally produced – you can use a videomaker that is free and do it yourself. This will in turn engage the audience and is more likely to spread the word.

Give them a reason to share

Incentives work well on social media channels, particularly Facebook. There is some debate as to whether or not organic Facebook reach is dead and you need to pay for ad campaigns, but there is some testament to offering up a competition prize. They might want to share this with friends or family to get them involved or they might want them to be the lucky winner!

Post regular and engaging content

Followers want to hear from you regularly. It’s important that you don’t leave it too long before your next post. It’s also important that you think carefully about the content itself. Is it something that is likely to generate a reaction? Does it contain the message that you are looking for? Facebook won’t favour content that’s not high quality – so spamming an audience won’t work.

Use Facebook tools

Facebook has lots of ways for you to engage with an audience. There are event pages that you can create for online and offline events – this is great for generating engagement. You can also introduce polls so that you can get feedback from your audience. You can ask for recommendations if you want an answer to a specific question, and there is now Facebook Live, which allows you to broadcast live. You could do a Q&A, product demos, workshops – or just generally spread your message.

Analyse data

You can see exactly the number of people that have viewed your content. This gives you an idea as to which content people like the most. It also lets you know the gender of your fan base, the age demographic, and when they are most likely to be online. This gives you the information that you need to get your digital voice across to the people that you need to target.

The advantages and disadvantages of social media in general are regularly discussed, but the one thing that you can say for certain is that it gives people a voice.
