Ward committee members help poor family

Ward 74 committee members offered to help install a new door for the Nkosi family.

KwaThema – Ward 74 committee members helped the Nkosi family keep warm this winter by donating a door.

For months the family’s kitchen door has been broken and the family could not afford to replace it.

Ward 74 councillor Thulani Simelane says he was touched when he visited the family and noticed that the door was broken.

“When I enquired about it they told me they could not afford a new door.

“I was concerned about the family’s safety because of the increased house burglaries in the area.

“It is also cold and the family might freeze in the cold because of the broken door.

“Together with my team of ward committee members we decided to approach the local building material stores and they responded positively.

“They donated a door frame, handle, door and building material to help install the door,” he says.

Simelane says neighbours also came forward and volunteered to help install the door for free.

“This shows if we work together we will be able to help those who are in need and bring change in our communities.

“We are calling to local business people to continue helping us help those who are in need,” he says.

Family member Lerato Nkosi says they are grateful that the ward committee members decided to help them.

“We are unemployed and the little money we receive from social grants is only enough to buy food.

“We dreaded the night because we feared for our safety but now that we have a new door that is a thing of the past,” she says.
